Garden Enhancement

Much work has been completed in the garden over the past week or two.  Thanks to such efficient workers from SCOTBARK laying bark chips and pathways in the centre of the garden.

A wide selection of Spring Bulbs has been planted, really looking forward to seeing them appear next spring.

Some photos of the mammoth Spring bulb planting. What a difference that machine makes to plant bulbs. Looks a bit like moles have been busy.

Many thanks also to our EC Park Manager and Rangers The grass was cut for the last time before winter yesterday and the rangers helped blow all the leaves into piles for our Leaf Mulch compost bin. So much achieved in so short time.

Storytelling Event

Scottish International Storytelling Festival event on Wednesday 20th of October “FOLK TALES FROM THE GARDEN” in Hopetoun Crescent Garden, Edinburgh.

Donald Smith, Festival Director conducted a guided walk and talk looking at the trees and plants etc in our garden. Michael Kerins entertained the young children with his lovely stories of “Stone Soup “and ” Wee Tom”

Great to see some of the children from our local nursery schools attending with parents, grandparents and carers.

Michael Kerins tells his tales.

The nursery school Bright Horizons want to help maintain a small section of the garden for us and would like to get some of the parents to generally help on a Saturday from 10.30 to 12.30 weather permitting.

We are delighted with their enthusiasm so another really wonderful side to the community coming together.

Thank you to everyone who attended our first storytelling event.

In all, a lovely day with good weather.

Our very grateful thanks to all the wonderful helpers who put up and took down the gazebo, sold home baked cakes, cards and mugs and then cleared up as well. Thank you also to Margaret and Stewart Wright for their very kind gift of all the mugs to sell.

Much appreciated. Everyone is now looking forward to getting the woodchip, logs etc in on Monday. Watch this space.

Great News for the garden.

We are delighted to announce that we have been awarded a “Places Called Home” grant of ¬£4,750 from The National Lottery Community Fund and IKEA UK. A very welcome boost to our work to increase use of the garden through cultural events, regeneration of the barren areas and a sensory play area for children. Follow our progress on this site!
